Paediatric First Aid

Our two day paediatric First Aid course is on the Kent County Council “approved” paediatric First Aid Training provider list in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2013 requirements.

This two day course will provide all practitioners with the confidence to deal with emergencies involving the children in their care. It is a requirement of all childcare practitioners who require registration by OFSTED. It is suitable for Teachers, child minders, Nursery practitioners, pre school and after school club staff and staff at residential children’s homes. The course meets with the standards required by SURESTART, OFSTED and NCMA.

Objectives

On successful completion of the course students will be able to:

  • Understand their role as a first aider including the use of available equipment and the procedures for recording incidents and actions;
  • Manage an emergency and act safely, promptly and effectively;
  • Administer practical First Aid to casualties in a range of emergencies;
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries;
  • Recognize the presence of major illness and apply general first aid principle in its management

Course Structure

This course is two days (12 contact hours) in duration

The main topics covered are:

  • Priorities of First Aid
  • Resuscitation of Adults, Children and Infants
  • Dealing with serious bleeding, wounds, soft tissue injuries and shock
  • Injuries to bones including serious spinal Injury
  • Dealing with Choking casualties
  • First Aid for many childhood ailments
  • Carrying out a thorough injury / illness assessment

Course assessment

Students are continuously assessed throughout the two days. On completion they will receive a Paediatric First Certificate and Wallet card which is valid for three years
